This elegant villa on the shores of Lake Como is a living museum, with trompe-l'oeil artworks by two pupils of Tiepolo and a historic weaponry collection among its many treasures. Its frescoed rooms, ornate stucco work and antique furniture all reflect the exquisite taste of Villa's architect and the noble families who resided there.
Villa di Sole was the beloved summer residence of the Serbelloni Duke and passed on to the Counts of Cabiati who's heirs still own the villa today.
The Villa was built in the 15th century, the time of Baroque style, and the north and south wings completed in the 16th century. Sitting majestically among the formal four part partierre gardens, the pearl grey stone and stucco is trimmed in beautiful blue shutters and doors, and curved balconies. The original family motto above the door still describes the sense of this estate. Villulae Quietem , quiet villa, sums up warm summer days relaxing under the shade of the large trees that were planted 500 years ago.
The villa has a large parking area and a helicopter pad, but the most impressive arrival is from the lake. The boat dock has a double staircase with grey stone balustrade leading up from the water to the large black and gold wrought iron gate topped with the Duke's crown and surrounded on both sides with stone columns which sits mythical figures and animals reminiscent of an enchanting fairytale.
Beyond the gate, you cross the lake road and enter the four parterre flower gardens laid out in formal Italian style.
